 Who is a Community Cakes Baker?

Answer: You can be a Community Cakes Baker! Do I need to be a professional baker or pastry chef to be a Community Cakes Baker?

Answer: No you do not have to be a professional baker or pastry chef to bake cakes for Community Cakes. Most of the Community Cakes Bakers have average experience with baking. However, all of the cakes made by Community Cakes Bakers are made from scratch. It is also important that all cakes be baked in a clean baking environment as well. 

When I am a Community Cakes Baker, how many cakes will I bake each month? 

Answer: It’s helpful to bake at least one cake per month. There is opportunity to bake additional cakes if you’d like! 

How do I choose when to bake cakes for Community Cakes? 

Answer: This is one of the most unique aspects of Community Cakes and why it is such an ideal volunteer experience. As a Community Cakes Baker, you choose what cakes you would like to bake each month, so you can select the cakes that work with your busy schedule. 

When I am a Community Cakes Baker, who will I bake cakes for? 

Answer: Community Cakes has many partners throughout the Treasure Valley, including the Idaho Veteran’s Home, multiple hospice organizations, a variety of retirement homes, and many others. A full list of partners can be found here

How do I apply to be a Community Cakes Baker?

What is the application process to be a Community Cakes Baker?

Answer: After you have completed the online application, we’ll contact you to attend our New Baker Orientation. After the Orientation, you’ll be paired with another volunteer Ambassador to set up a home visit appointment, during which you will be expected to have baked a sample cake, and the Recruitment Specialist will review the Community Cakes Policies and Procedures with you. After that you’ll be ready to start baking! 

What do I do if I can no longer bake a cake that I have signed up to bake? 

Answer: Life happens! If you get sick or can no longer bake the cake that you’ve signed up for, please email us as soon as possible so we can find another volunteer to bake the cake!

How do I choose what type of cake to bake? 

Answer: Some cake recipients will request a specific type of cake if they have a favorite flavor or preference. Other cake recipients have food allergies and require specific accommodations, like a sugar-free cake or a gluten-free cake. Otherwise, the cake is ‘Baker’s Choice’!  Click here for some basic Cake Guidelines.

How long have Community Cakes Bakers been baking? 

Answer: Community Cakes was established in 2011… but many of our volunteers have been baking their entire lives!

Answer: The cakes baked by Community Cakes Bakers come in all shapes and sizes. Examples of some of the cakes that have been baked can be found under the ‘Cake Gallery’ link of this website.
